“Mostly the Kardashians come to mind” - “100%. Khloe Kardashian’s recent saga.”  - “recent example: Khloe Kardashian” - “the Kardashians as a whole.” - “The uprising of the Kardashian empire” etc.

The family name is synonymous with body image controversy. Celebrated for standing apart from the supermodel skinny that prevailed in the 90s and early 2000s, as the Kardashian-Jenner empire has grown, so have their controversies.

Perfectly encompassing the Kardashian conundrum is the recent “saga” which saw a photo circulated of Khloe Kardashian, not especially unflattering but without any retouches. Her team scrambled to have it removed from the Internet, issuing futile legal threats to people who reposted it. When it became clear there was no hiding it, it became an opportunity for Kardashian to open up a dialogue with the media and the public about the cycle of unrealistic body standards. She did explain that she wanted the picture gone because of the impossible scrutiny and standards she’s held to, juxtaposed with a video “proving” what her body can look like, and failing to acknowledge the influential role her family have played in creating this environment, continuing to perpetuate the very thing she complained about. 

“She missed a good opportunity with this whole unedited picture thing. But instead she missed the mark and decided to take legal action against people who would post it. If she would’ve owned it, she would’ve won a lot of people’s respect. She looked fine in that pic. It is just ironic Khloe of all people crying about unrealistic beauty standards when it was her and her sisters that created these unrealistic beauty standards baffles me.”
